You can use it under the fire pit or grill. It's perfect for protecting wood, lawn, artificial grass, or decorative stones. You need to make sure the clearance is 6 inches from the fire pit to the pad. A pit cannot be placed directly over it. Concrete won't get damaged by fire right away so if you're just going for a single-season temporary fire pit, the concrete base underneath it should be safe if it wasn't already damaged or compromised.
